The End of a Legacy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a great man whose energy and spirit helped build SEAZA. General D. Ashari, Founding President of the South East Asian Zoos Association, passed away peacefully in his home located in Jakarta, Indonesia on 4 April 2010.

Even at the age of 87, General Ashari maintained his vigilance for the preservation of wildlife. Though not possessing an overwhelming physical presence, his strength of character and years of experience demanded respect by all who met him. General Ashari may no longer be with SEAZA in body, but his spirit will live on in the association which he built with heart and soul. His compassion for the animal kingdom will be surely missed.
