7th International Aquarium Conference

The International Aquarium Congress, commonly known as IAC, is probably the most important and prestigious event for the public aquarium industry. The congress takes place every four years and gathers professionals from public aquariums all around the world to share and learn about new developments in research, technology, management and other related issues for the industry. A mini exhibition is also organized during the event, providing an opportunity for businesses that offer products or services for the public aquarium industry.

Shanghai Ocean Aquarium will be the host for the 7th IAC with the theme “Progress and Conservation: The role of aquariums in protecting the aquatic environment”. It will be held in Shanghai from 19 - 24 October 2008. This is the first time IAC will be hosted in China with previous locations including Monaco, the United States and Japan. 2008 CBSG, WAZA & IZE Conferences

Adelaide, South Australia, will be home of the 2008 conferences for the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG), the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the International Zoo Educators'Association (IZE). The CBSG conference ( www.cbsg2008.com.au) will be held 16-19 October, while the joint WAZA/IZE conference ( www.waza2008.com.au, www.ize2008.com.au) will be held 19-23 October. On 23 February 2008, SEAZA member Taman Safari Indonesia in Cisarua played host to Terri Irwin along with her children, Bindi and Robert, from Australia Zoo. From 18-19 February 2008, Taman Safari Indonesia played host to CBSG Headquarters Senior Program Manager Dr. Kathy Traylor-Holzer. During these two days, Dr. Traylor-Holzer facilitated a workshop co-sponsored by CBSG Indonesia covering a broad range of topics including principles of ex-situ population management, studbook maintenance and facilitation skills training. Organizations in attendance included the Indonesian Zoo Association (PKBSI), SEAZA and CBSG Japan. CBSG Indonesia convenor Drs. Jansen Manansang is seen here with Dr. Traylor-Holzer.
